As former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer prattled on about why the New York City comptroller is an important job, “Colbert Report” host Stephen Colbert had to point out the obvious.
“Given a position of this responsibility, shouldn’t it go to a person who has shown a modicum of self-comptrol,” Colbert said Thursday night during the “Colbert Report.” Spitzer had stopped by as a surprise guest.
Colbert also asked Spitzer if the job might be beneath him. “Before you had your fall from grace–or whatever her name was…you were the governor of the state,” Colbert reminded the pol. “Aren’t you…both above and below this job.”
Spitzer’s reply was that he wanted to be in a “Goldilocks position.”
Colbert concluded the segment by asking Spitzer if and why voters were more forgiving than they used to be. “Do you think that it signals progress for our country or the slow decay of our moral values?” the comedian questioned. “Wow, wow, that’s a tough one,” Spitzer stuttered. “This ain’t Charlie Rose, motherf—er!” Colbert exclaimed.
