It seemed only fitting to have Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders (played by Kate McKinnon and Larry David) on for the Saturday Night Live season finale. The last Cold Open for the season had Hillary and Sanders discussing the state of the Democratic primary at a Los Angeles bar.
“Well bartender, I’ve done it, I’ve won the nomination. I mean, no I haven’t, I keep losing states, but mathematically I’ve done it,” Hillary toasted to math before she was about to head home.
Sanders refused to leave though when the bartender tried to close up, claiming “I can stay here as long as I want!” He denied the night was over, saying “it’s not over ’til I say it’s over!”
The two candidates traded jabs about the primary, as Hillary pointed out she couldn’t see him sitting behind her, “so far behind me you could never catch up.”
Hillary did convince the bartender to let her have “one more drink with my old, very old, dangerously old friend, Bernie.” Sanders ordered “a beer, a new brand that people are flocking to, something refreshing and revolutionary, something that draws huge crowds.” Hillary meanwhile just wanted “a beer no one likes but gets the job done.”
The two shared memories from the campaign trail, including when Sanders said at a debate to stop worrying about the “damn e-mails,” which the two laughed could have taken Hillary down.
And, even in states where Hillary has lost, she has earned more delegates, with both candidates admitting the system was “rigged” and drinking to DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
Sanders admitted that even though he “rants against the upper class,” he still dreams about “being a fancy millionaire or billionaire” who “wears a fancy hat and says fancy things.”
Hillary admitted her own secret, that when it comes to the presidency, “I really, really want it,” something she claimed to never have told anyone before. She also admitted she doesn’t like people, but she only talks to them “because I want to be the president so bad.”
The two danced, despite them being “mortal enemies.” Hillary managed to convince Sanders to do so with the offer of three super delegates. But, she refused to let him lead and prevented him for saying the iconic “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night,” as she shoved him into a closing elevator before joining the cast.
