Stephen Colbert: It’s nice not to pretend to be a political pundit anymore

Stephen Colbert says he is relieved he doesn’t have to pretend to be a political pundit anymore.

In an interview with Mo Rocca on CBS Sunday Morning, the new host of “The Late Show” said he has worked hard for the past 10 years to play the character his fans have watched on “The Colbert Report.”

“I hope they’ll find out pretty quickly that the guy they saw for 10 years was my sense of humor the whole time,” Colbert said. “It is, I guess, flattering that people thought I was an actual pundit or a newsman, eventually over the years. But it’s really nice to not have to pretend it anymore!”

Colbert will debut as the host of CBS’ “The Late Show” this Tuesday night, taking over for former host David Letterman.
