Poll: Voters think Fred Trump was better businessman than Donald

Donald Trump has a reputation of being a top-flight businessman and real estate mogul. However, many Americans believe that his father, Fred, was the better businessman, according to a new poll released on Tuesday.

CAFE, a new media network, conducted a poll with SurveyMonkey and found that 80 percent of registered voters believe that Fred Trump was a superior businessman in comparison to Donald.

Millennials were found to be more skeptical of the presumptive GOP nominee’s business record, with 89 percent of respondents aged 18 to 29 choosing Fred as the more successful businessman. Also, women showed to be bigger skeptics than men of Trump’s business success, as 87 percent of women and 72 percent of men said Fred Trump was a greater businessman than Donald. Millennials and women have been some the most skeptical of Trump throughout his campaign.

Donald Trump’s reputation was strongest among voters aged 45 to 59, though 76 percent of that group still said that Fred Trump had more business success than Donald.

Though not nearly as famous as his son, Fred Trump was a successful real estate mogul in his own right. The son of German immigrants started his real estate development business when he was  22 years old. Trump owned many large, middle-class apartment complexes throughout Brooklyn and Queens, and was believed to be worth between $250 million and $300 million at the time of his death in 1999, according to Heavy. Donald Trump has said that his father gave him a $1 million loan when he started his business career.

The results of this survey come at a time in the election cycle where Donald Trump’s business record has been questioned by many media pundits and political opponents.
