Most viewed White House video of 2014 features Obama taking a walk, hugging people

Of all the incredibly riveting videos released by the White House over the past year, Americans were most taken by a clip of President Obama taking a random walk on the National Mall.

The video, which was published May 22, has garnered over 5 million views. It follows Obama as he walks around popular Washington landmarks, hugs a few people, takes a few photos and even encounters some enthusiastic shouts about “freedom” and “hope.”

“As you will see, President Obama taking an unplanned walk on the Ellipse proved to be the most popular piece we released — and it wasn’t even close,” writes Adam Garber on the White House Blog of the top-viewed video list.

After Obama’s “surprise walk” comes the “1 is 2 Many PSA” featuring male Hollywood actors — and Vice President Joe Biden! — raising awareness about sexual assault in America. It has just over 1.5 million views.

Perhaps the best part of the winning video shows a random dude shouting some abstract nouns at the president. “America!” he screams next to a food stand. “Freedom! Peace! Hope and charity!”

There’s also a group of bros who ask the president for a photo op, and a woman who tells Obama after a hug, “Oh my gosh, it’s like the best day of my life.”
