John Oliver slams Oregon Obamacare site and ads

When a state wastes millions of dollars on “violently adorable” advertisements for a broken healthcare website, there’s just one way to let residents know: with a “violently adorable” public service announcement.

During the season premier of his new HBO show, Last Week Tonight, comedian John Oliver slammed the failed Oregon healthcare exchange, Cover Oregon, and its horrible ads. Just days ago, officials finally threw in the towel on the expensive site, choosing instead to go through the federal Obamacare exchange. The glitchy Oregon website failed to sign up even one person for coverage, and advertising alone cost $3 million.

And Oliver made sure Oregonians knew just how ridiculous it is to spend so much on the folksy ads.

“Look, we get it Oregon,” Oliver said. “You people live in a cartoon. Your mountains are breathtaking, your coffee is fair trade and everywhere you go, you hear the sound of f***ing ukuleles. You’ve made your point, but here’s the thing: this is all very charming until you waste tens of millions of dollars of taxpayer money on a website that doesn’t work.”

The host then played his hilarious musical PSA for Oregonians — and it’s spot-on.
