Unless it’s Sean Penn cheering Hugo Chavez or some other well-paid members of Tinsel town royalty praising the likes of Chè Guevara, attendees at Hollywood award shows wouldn’t know a political joke from the Right if it slapped them in the face. So it’s no wonder that when comedian Jimmy Kimmel dished a conservative joke at the 2012 Emmy awards last night, it sailed right over most of their pretty little heads.
Most, but not all. When Kimmel, who hosted the awards, began by asking “Is anyone here voting for Mitt Romney?” surprisingly, the GOP contender got a handful of cheers.
“Oh good, only 40 Republicans, and the rest godless liberal homosexuals,” he joked. “Being a Republican in Hollywood is like being a Chick-fil-A sandwich on the snack table at ‘Glee’.”
Not only does Kimmel seriously possess a brass pair for making fun of Hollywood liberals, he did it to their faces, and in the heat of an election season.
And his comedic insult was even more courageous in that setting because the Palin hit job, miniseries movie known as “Game Change” was slated to be the big winner at the award show. Predictably, “Game Change” did in fact triumph, winning five awards.
With whoops and hollers audibly heard in response at the mere mention of the GOP presidential nominee, it goes to show that this elite crowd of entertainers might finally begin to embrace a more conservative message.
After all, they are the one percent the president so desperately seeks to demonize (yet is not afraid to tap for fundraising dollars).
