Sore loser Dick Lugar blames Norquist, conservatives for loss; won’t campaign for Richard Mourdock

Sen. Dick Lugar, R-Ind., blames conservative activist Grover Norquist and other conservative groups such as the Club for Growth and FreedomWorks for his 30-point loss to Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock. The veteran Senator ignored voter sentiments that he was out of touch with his constituents.

Lugar’s bitterness was apparent when he said the government programs he was involved in for Indiana were not “necessarily appreciated” this time around.

“A large part of the Republican Party of Indiana believed, apparently, in the idea of individualism as opposed to community, a sense of no compromise as opposed to talking across the aisle,” Lugar said.

Campaigning for Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock, the man who defeated him earlier this month will not be part of his agenda, despite having said he would support electing a Republican to his seat in November.

The Senator told CBS’s “Face the Nation” that Mourdock needs to moderate his message and accused him of have a “partisan” message.

Lugar refused to utter Mourdock’s name except once preferring to call him “my former opponent, and now candidate.”

“Sen. Lugar was not willing to committhat he would vote against tax increases,” Norquist told Red Alert Politics. “That suggests he is out of touch with Indiana Republicans.

“Lugar voted on gun control as if it was the 1970s and talked about taxes as if it was pre-Reagan.”
