Recovering from exercise accident, Reid challenges critics to 250 pushups

Can you do more pushups than Harry Reid?

Despite garnering some laughter — and earning some concerned sympathy — after receiving treatment for broken facial and rib bones from an exercise accident on New Year’s day, Reid challenged whether his critics could match his exercise regimen.

“I don’t know how many people out there could sit down and do 250 pushups, or do the strength exercises I did with those bands,” he said to NPR Friday, via The Blaze. “Hundreds and hundreds of times, hundreds of times, every week, three times a week.”

One such band broke on New Year’s Day, causing him to fall and resulting in the trip to the hospital trip.

And while the circumstances of a snapping rubber band might seem humorous, Reid suffered serious injury to his right eye and said that he could lose his sight.

“They’re very hopeful, but you know, this isn’t anything that’s a slam dunk. I had serious injury in my eye, there’s blood accumulation there, and we’re hoping that resolves itself,” he said. “As long as the blood is in the eye, it’s hard to see.”

“They’re hopeful, and I’m just following their orders,” he concluded.

We wish the senator a speedy recovery.
