Rice, a 13-year-old cat owned by Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., has passed away, according to the Congressman’s Facebook page. In turn, someone on staff wrote Rice a nice little obituary.
“Rice was a dedicated family man, close adviser, and friend to virtually any visitor to the Yarmuth home,” the obit reads. “He was the winner of the Humane Society of the United States’ 2011 Congressional Photo Contest and was recognized as an Elder Statescat.”
Also mentioned was Rice’s preference to sit on the lap of the Congressman. And the Congressman’s preference to make a Rice photo the wallpaper on his many electronic devices.
“Rice is survived by his family, his Congressman, and Whiskey, his tabby companion,” the obit concludes. Because, clearly, a Kentucky lawmaker would have a cat named Whiskey.
