If you win the ‘Meet Hillary’ contest, it will cost you hundreds of dollars in taxes

It’s not that hard to believe, considering the going rate of her speech engagements, but if you want to “meet Hillary,” you’re going to have to pay.

Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign launched its “Meet Hillary” contest online Thursday, teasing supporters with the prospect of meeting the 2016 Democratic contender at a special campaign event.

“We’re flying one winner (and a guest!) to meet Hillary,” declares the advertisement on Hillary’s campaign website. “Sign up now for your chance to win.”

However, as the Daily Caller points out, the lucky winners will have to do more than just “sign up” upon claiming their prize.

The official rules of the contest describe the prize: “Special invitations to a campaign event for winner and one guest, where they will meet and take photos with Hillary Clinton, round-trip tickets for winner and winner’s guest from within the 50 U.S. States, D.C., or Puerto Rico to the location of the campaign event; and two (2) nights hotel accommodations for each winner and winner’s guest.”

The retail value of each prize — of which there are two — is $2,000, according to the website.

In bold uppercase print, the rules explain why the monetary value of the prize is relevant: “ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY PRIZE ARE THE SOLE RESPONSIBILITY OF WINNER(S).”

Thus, each winner — depending on his or her tax bracket — will have to pay somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 to $800 in taxes just to meet Hillary.

That might just turn someone “dead broke.”
