Texas student bought Barbie jeep to get around campus after DWI

Have jeep, will travel.

Such is the thinking of a Texas State University student who, upon losing her driver’s license and car after a DWI, bought a battery-powered Barbie jeep to get around campus.

“That’s Tara, always got a little drama going on,” her father told KHOU-TV.

Tara Monroe, the enterprising drama queen, was caught illegally driving under the influence. Tara’s father, Monte Monroe, took her car away and replaced it with a bicycle.

“I went and put my bike rack on my jeep and proceeded to drive to San Marcos,” Monte said. “I told her, ‘The jeep’s mine. Here’s your bike. This is your new form of transportation.’”

Remorseful, but not enough make her want to peddle to class, Tara went on Craigslist and bought herself a new set of wheels – a battery-powered Barbie jeep.

The caption of a photo sent to her father informing him of her big-girl purchase read, “My dad took my car away because I got in trouble and so I went out and bought my first car.”

Tara’s sister Taylor called her sister a “diva,” explaining the purchase was necessary because “she [Tara] doesn’t walk.”

“She doesn’t sweat. She’s not going to ride a bike. She’s got to get somewhere, she’s going to figure out how she’s going to get there. She’s stubborn,” Taylor said.

Capitalizing on her new found automotive fame, Tara quickly changed her Twitter and Instagram account names to reflect her notoriety…and help her admirers find her easily via search engine.

A meme posted to her Instagram account poked fun at her ‘turnt’ state which resulted in the loss of her real car.

Though Tara is reveling in her 15 minutes, it seems her father has more lofty goals for his daughter – like advocacy.

“I don’t think she anticipated the publicity that would come from it, but I’ve told her, I said, ‘Use this to be an example for other people not to make the same mistake so they won’t be where you are,” he said.

But ‘where she is’ may not seem so bad for social media-frenzied college students, who if nothing else, have learned from ‘Tara the Barbie girl’ that battery-powered transportation will not only save gas money, but shoot you to internet stardom.

Though it seems fame isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, according to Tara’s stressed call for help to Miley Cyrus.

Though her father said she won’t be driving for a “very, very long time,” Tara seems quite content riding around campus in her “mf jeep.”

First let me hop out the mf jeep
