Who says young people aren’t engaged in politics and current events?
High school students in the Clintons’ New York hometown have created a petition to move their prom from the Trump National Golf Club, citing Donald Trump’s “hateful” remarks as to why they cannot dance the night away at opulent club.
The petition, which calls Trump “a poison behind whom we cannot stand,” claims to represent the seniors of Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, New York. They wish to move their prom to another location that doesn’t have a leader with a history of “bigoted remarks to ethnic groups.”
The student who posted the petition, Julian Robles, identifies himself at the end of the petition as “both a proud Latino-American, and student of Greeley.”
In an e-mail to the divided senior class, who are seemingly more concerned over the location at which they take their prom selfies than their date’s matching tie, Horace Greeley High School Principal Robert Rhodes told the class that the location will be left up to the senior students.
However, Rhodes added that the decision, which was made by the high school’s Student Leadership Council, may not be so easily changed:
According to the Chappaqua Daily Voice, Rhodes says that the administration along with the council members will hold “round-table discussion” in September for the students to voice their concerns over the prom’s location.
Should the student’s have to keep the location at the Trump Golf Club, it may be some consolation that former President Bill Clinton is a frequent patron of the club, even bringing family and friends there when he hits the links.
The petition, which has 266 supporters and needs to reach 500, may also run into less political classmates holding out on supporting it who would rather just say, “Shut up and DANCE!”
