Bail reduced for already deported illegal immigrant in New Jersey

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie isn’t exactly handling the state’s illegal immigration problem with the tough on crime stance he talked about during the Republican debates.

Salvador Chavez, an illegal immigrant who has already been deported in the past, was charged with a second-degree felony for endangering the welfare of a child and an assault charge for fighting with a minor.

Despite these charges and the fact that he is living in the country illegally, Chavez had his bail reduced from $50,000 to $30,000. Thankfully, he was living in the sanctuary city of Trenton, New Jersey.

The Trentonian reported that at 5 a.m. on Sept. 9, the minor’s mother found Chavez fighting her son outside of their home after returning from a night of drinking.

Chavez, a family friend, had been with the minor at a bar earlier that evening. The boy did not tell the police what caused the altercation, but the officers noted he had scrapes, bruises, and was bleeding.

Rather than immediately referring Chavez to Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Judge Darlene Pereksta reduced his bail because he had no previous criminal record.
