Top 5 moments from White House Correspondents’ Dinner ‘House of Cards’ spoof

Step aside, ‘House of Cards.’ There’s a new Netflix series in town.

House of Nerds,’ a spoof of the popular online-only show, was revealed at Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, an event that has jokingly been referred to as ‘nerd prom.’

The five-minute parody featured the show’s corrupt congressman Frank Underwood, played by Kevin Spacey, along with some real-world politicians and journalists — such as Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and BuzzFeed‘s Ben Smith.

The brilliant spoof was loaded with Beltway humor and clever cultural references. Here are the top five moments from ‘House of Nerds.’

5. McCain’s reference to “the youngsters”

In typical Republican fashion, McCain is worried about how the host of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Conan O’Brien, will look to “the youngsters.”

4. Jay Carney reading answers from a Magic 8 Ball

The White House press secretary dodges questions with a little help from a classic childhood toy, but he does agree to talk about Jay-Z and Beyoncé’s trip to Cuba.

3. Kevin McCarthy and Steny Hoyer’s cameos

Nothing like putting the real House Majority Whip and Democratic Whip on screen at the same time as the fake House Majority Whip. Oh, and McCarthy and Hoyer are BFFs. Plus, Hoyer seems to be having trouble with his Netflix account.

2. Ben Smith’s BuzzFeed kegger

Instead of attending the dinner, the editor-in-chief of the popular news and entertainment website hosts his own party — red Solo cup style — because “even a colonoscopy would be cooler than that dinner.”

1. Michael Bloomberg and the Big Gulp

Underwood tries to talk the New York City Mayor out of running for another term because it would put Anthony Weiner in a compromising spot. And when Underwood leaks that Fox Senior White House Correspondent Ed Henry drinks Big Gulps, the Mayor starts a plan to oust the journalist.
