While many college professors preach socialist and communist ideals from the safety of a comfy university classroom, it isn’t often that students gain exposure to the true reality of communism rather than a whitewashed version of it. Now, one college in California has taken brainwashing students to a new level by hosting official propagandists from Venezuela’s communist regime.
This week, Scripps College in California hosted a series of talks that featured propagandists from Venezuela’s totalitarian communist regime, designed to misinform students about the true realities of communism, as well as promote anti-American values and blame the United States for the world’s problems.
One of the events, titled “Maroon Legacies and Afro-Venezuelan Organizing in Venezuela’s Bolivarian Revolution,” featured a talk by Jesús Chucho García, Consul General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in New Orleans, La. According to the event description, the talk served to chastise the United States and the European Union for placing sanctions on Venezuela in response to human rights violations, while also showcasing the “successes” of the Bolivarian Revolution, started by the late Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez.
“Despite the increase in economic sanctions from powers such as the United States, Canada, and the European Union, the Bolivarian Revolution [Venezuela’s revolutionary state] has built 2 million homes across the country for working class families in the last five years,” reads the event description.
Another event is titled “Venezuela’s Challenge: Against War and a Unipolar World Venezuela’s Challenge: Against War and a Unipolar World” and was presented by Antonio Cordero, Consul General of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela of the Western Region of the United States, who is advertised as an “expert on military questions and resisting rightwing paramilitary attacks.” The event description says the lecture is for “all who are interested in economics that serve people not profits” — a clear jab towards capitalist societies.
While many college students at Scripps were likely treated to a whitewashed view of communism in their classrooms this week, they would be wise to do their own research and see how Venezuelan citizens are actually faring under their totalitarian rule.
Last year, the country essentially admitted they’re bankrupt, facing shortages of both food and energy, while many citizens and even zoo animals were dying of starvation. Meanwhile, lavish photos of several government officials and their families drinking and vacationing have drawn outrage in a country where so few barely have enough food to survive.
