Jewel thief falls asleep while trying to steal from Florida home

Let this be a warning to jewel thieves everywhere: Make sure to get a good night sleep — or at least a solid nap — before attempting to steal anything.

According to the Sarasota (Fla.) County Sheriff’s Office, an individual named Dion Davis was apparently trying to rob an unoccupied home when he fell asleep mid-theft, leaving the bag of stolen jewels right next to him on the bed, reports WTEV.

Responding to a burglary call, the law enforcement officials found Davis passed out on the bed inside the home. They proceeded to take pictures of the suspected thief, and he was so tired that he didn’t even wake up to the photo snaps.

The deputies later posted the photos to the Facebook page for the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

“Talk about falling asleep on the job!!! A cleaning lady called deputies Monday morning when she found Dion Davis inside her client’s Nokomis home,” reads the September 9 post. “He was passed out with a bag full of stolen jewelry next to him on the bed and didn’t even notice the deputies taking pictures! #FloriDUH

The Facebook post has garnered over 500 likes and more than 400 shares.

The suspect will be charged with burglary of an unoccupied home. Unfortunately, he can’t be charged with stupidity.
