Most of the problems in America today can be traced to ideas coming from the left, and young conservatives are in a position to fight back because they “hold the future in their hands”, according to Fox News commentator Monica Crowley.
Crowley spoke with Red Alert Politics at the premier of The Conservatives at the Young America’s Foundation’s Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, Calif.
“…[E]very major catastrophe we are facing in this country can be traced to liberalism, progressivism, Marxism, communism, whatever you want to call it,” Crowley said. “The label doesn’t even matter.”
She includes the nation’s massive debt, weakened military power, high unemployment and “rotting” public-education system as just a few examples of where leftist ideologies have undermined the nation’s social fabric.
“So for me, young conservatives literally hold the future of the country in their hands,” Crowley said.
Young Americans have not yet been beaten down by high tax rates and disappointment in government leaders, and have a can-do attitude, which Crowley considers invaluable.
But she believes that young conservatives have to be brave living among a peer group that cheers Obama and glamorizes liberal policies. This poses serious challenges for them in promoting their ideals of limited government, individual freedom, economic liberty and fiscal responsibility.
The left resorts to “brutal tactics” and intimidation to ensure conformity with their way of thinking, and Crowley has experienced this first-hand.
She found this out earlier this year especially following a Tweet that she put out in response to Sandra Fluke’s engagement announcement, saying: “To a man?”
At the time she read the headline and Tweeted her comment, as she was sitting on a beach in the Bahamas wearing a bikini. It was an innocent joke, she said.
But the response from the left was vicious. Blog posts and Tweets denounced her as homophobic, and she said she got hundreds of Tweets from people wishing she would die.
“It’s a lesson in the viciousness of the left in their brutal tactics. It certainly opened my eyes,” she said.
Obama, she said, is deliberately tearing down the things that made America great; consequently, the future of America is at stake in November. “It’s curtains” for America if he is re-elected this November, she said.
Older conservatives who are already working in the media and the political scene depend on the energy and “youthful exuberance about America” that the young people have, according to Crowley.
“Just keep going, keep fighting, do not let the left intimidate you the way they tried to do with my Tweet joke. Keep fighting because you know that you are on the right side of history and the right side of America,” Crowley said.
