New Obamacare ad promotes harmful stereotypes about gay people

Obamacare advertisements have patronized young people and women, but now they’re belittling and stereotyping another group — gay people. And one conservative LGBT group is speaking out against the promiscuous way in which Obamacare promoters are portraying gay people.

Out2Enroll released a highly controversial promotional video for Obamacare last week, featuring muscular men wearing only underwear, hats and socks. One man even has a candy cane sticking out of his briefs. The ad, designed to appeal to the LGBT community, is raising questions about how the Left views gay people.

The video begins with a screen saying “Out2Enroll Presents… ‘Get Enrolled’ A Full Frontal Freedom Production.” Naturally, “full frontal” coyly refers to the men in the video, whose almost bare bodies leave little to the imagination.

You may remember the group from its 2012 viral video parody of One Direction’s “What makes you beautiful,” in which the boys called on Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney to “disclose” what he’s “hiding down below.” AKA release his tax returns.

In their latest video, a woman sings “Get Enrolled,” a parody of “Let it Snow.” At one point, one man on a ladder is decorating a Christmas tree, while another man behind him stares at, well, his behind.

Log Cabin Republicans, an organization representing gay conservatives, released a statement about the taxpayer-funded video. Log Cabin’s Executive Director Gregory T. Angelo called it “an example of the left promoting harmful stereotypes that gay men are nothing more than sex-crazed lechers.”

He went on to say “this cynical ad betrays the depths Obamacare advocates will sink to in order to pad their pathetic enrollment numbers,” while suggesting President Obama “distance himself from this nonsense and denounce it immediately.”

But at least one Democratic Congressman is supporting the advertisement.

Rep. Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) said he has no problem with it.

“Whatever it takes to get people enrolled,” he said.

“Whatever” apparently includes promoting stereotypes about gay people.

Angelo asserted that if something like this was produced by someone on the right, liberals would be outraged.

“At a time when left-wing propagandists are decrying Duck Dynasty‘s Phil Robertson for equating homosexuality with promiscuity and deviance, Out2Enroll and others should take a look in the mirror and ask if the truth is that they are the ones responsible for promoting such harmful stereotypes.”

Out2Enroll, an organization focused on ensuring LGBT communities sign up for Obamacare, is administered by representatives from the Sellers Dorsey Foundation — which receives money from the Department of Health and Human Services — the Center for American Progress and the Federal Agencies Project.

When it comes to perpetuating negative stereotypes about various groups, Obamacare advertisements know no bounds. Which group will be patronized next?
