A Michael Jackson impersonator slays the moonwalk in the middle of Baltimore protests

One of the odder features of the Baltimore protests–this intrepid Michael Jackson impersonator found dancing in the middle of the streets and, in one instance, on top of a truck.

He’s kind of great:

And has a seriously killer moonwalk:

UPDATE: The dancer, Dimitri Reeves, gave an interview to Mediaite about his routines–he travels around performing MJ at intersections for a living, but danced in Baltimore with the hope of spreading “positivity”:

What happened yesterday is, we saw what was going on, and and we do this all the time, so we thought, “What better time to do this?”…We were right down the street from the CVS, and it was just destroyed. And when it was going on, I wanted to show some positivity to the area, like what James Brown did in Boston [after the death of Martin Luther King]. I wanted to do that because, like, all this flipping cars and lighting things on fire — it’s like, you get mad and me, and then you’re going home and breaking something in your house, because you’re getting mad at me. It made me so sick.

At one point his moves even distracted would-be looters from their vandalism:

Yeah! They were coming down and they were hype, I guess. And then people saw men and were like, “what’s going on?” and they heard the music. I did “Will You Be There,” “You Are Not Alone,” “Man in the Mirror,” “Beat It.” Most people thought I was trying be funny, but I wasn’t trying to be funny at all. That wasn’t my mindset at all. I just wanted to take people’s minds off of what was going on in that area. We were right in the middle of it. On one side there was a fire. On the other side was a police force with riot shields and every thing. Oh, god.

Reeves told Mediaite he’d be coming back to perform Tuesday. His dancing raises money for his music career and pays for his parents’ dialysis.
