Firefighters had to ditch their groceries when 911 called. But a fellow Costco patron picked up the tab.

Drop everything and run. Just like those caught in the fire, the firefighters coming to put the flames out do the same.

This past weekend, a group of Vacaville, Calif. firefighters was shopping at Costco for their Memorial Day barbecue when they received a call. They had to get back to work. Already in the checkout line, they ditched their cart and ran out.

That cart full of food still made it through the checkout line, paid in full. Another patron of the store footed the $125.25 bill.

“While one of our crews was shopping at Costco, wearing our camouflage shirts to honor the military, they received a 911 call and had to leave their cart of food and run out to the engine. After returning to the store to pay, a military wife paid for the entire cart and left this note. Whoever did this, we are forever grateful and your kind gesture will not be forgotten,” the Vacaville Firefighters Association Facebook page read.

“Firefighters. Thanks for being there for us. Have a good week,” read the receipt, signed, “Airforce wife.”

The Battalion Chief Jeff Ryder hopes “Airforce wife” comes forward for a formal thank you.

The firefighters already paid the good deed forward.

Local television station KOVR-TV reported that the firefighters bought an elderly couple’s flowers later that day and made dinner for a World War II veteran Tuesday night.
