Ben Carson spent his weekend addressing claims about his past

On Friday morning, Politco published their piece, “Exclusive: Carson claimed West Point ‘scholarship’ but never applied.”

Since then, many have been talking about if Carson fabricated this life event, and others in his autobiography, Gifted Hands.

The Daily Caller has reported on the Politico piece extensively. They’ve questioned the claims made in the piece, as well as reported that the campaign calls Politico’s claim “an outright lie.” Carson has stood by his scholarship offer, since it was “informal.”

Others have also suggested that the story and attention surrounding it is a move from the liberal mainstream media. Carson himself questioned reporters at a press conference on Friday why they didn’t vet Obama in such a manner.

His press conference provided quite the headlines. Many reporting refers to Carson as how he “slams reporters,” or “blows up at reporters,” as CNN and Mediaite did. The New York Times wrote in their headline that “Ben Carson Turns Heat on Reporters in Feisty News Conference.” RealClearPolitics referred to his press conference as “combative” in their headline.

The conservative blog Chicks on the Right applauded “angry Carson.” They also pointed to Twitter reactions about #FuturePoliticoHeadlines.

Carson appeared on Face the Nation Sunday morning. He spoke to how he’s facing the scrutiny that he is because “a lot of people are very threatened.” He also spoke to how it pertains to his high poll numbers:

There’s no question I’m getting special scrutiny. They’ve seen the recent head-to-head polling against Hillary and how well I do. And, you know, they’re worried. There is no question about it.

Carson also described the offer of the scholarship from West Point. “I said it was offered. I didn’t say I received it,” he clarified.
