Five big lies Democrats told the American people about Obamacare

1. Democrats told Americans for years that they could keep their health insurance plans.

President Obama: “If you like your health care plan, you will be able to keep your health care plan. Period.”

Key Senate Democrats running for election in 2014 also told Americans they could keep their insurance.

Reality: As NBC News reported, the Obama administration has known for at least three years that millions of Americans would lose their insurance policies because of Obamacare.

2. President Obama also told Americans they could keep their doctors.

President Obama:”If you like your doctor, you will be able to keep your doctor, period.”

Reality: This was never true. With significant changes to insurance policies came significant changes to the number and type of doctors covered under certain plans.

Even elderly patients who have Medicare Advantage are being forced to switch doctors because of Obamacare.

3. President Obama repeatedly promised premiums would go down by $2,500 per year for each family because of the Affordable Care Act.

Reality: Now projections show these costs will go up by $7,450 for an average family over the next 8 years. Many Americans will not only lose their current plans, but will be forced to accept plans with significantly higher premiums.

4. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and other administration officials have claimed they didn’t know the website would have serious issues before it rolled out on October 1.

Sebelius: “We knew that in any big, new, complicated system there would be problems. No one ever imagined the volume of issues and problems that we have had and we must fix it.”

Vice President Joe Biden: “We assumed that it was up and ready to run, but the good news is that although it’s not, and we apologize for that, we’re confident that by the end of November it will be and there will still be plenty of time for people to register to get online.”

Reality: As CNN reported, the main contractor for Healthcare.gov – CGI – gave the administration serious warnings months before the launch that the website might not be ready on time. This was the same period during which the Obama administration rejected calls from Republicans to delay the individual mandate portion of the law. And while the administration has promised that the website will be up and running smoothly by the end of next month, experts say it could take months or years.

5. Administration officials are now claiming they never told any lies.

Jay Carney: “No, the president was clear about a basic fact … If you had insurance that you liked on the individual market, and you wanted to keep that insurance…you could.”

Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.): “He didn’t say anything wrong … That was true.”

Sen. Jon Tester (D-Mt.). “’You said millions of people lost their health care,’” Tester told a reporter, later saying that news reports backing up the statement were “wrong.”

Valerie Jarrett tweeted: “FACT: Nothing in #Obamacare‬ forces people out of their health plans. No change is required unless insurance companies change existing plans.”

Reality: The health care reform law specifically requires insurance companies to get rid of many plans that do not satisfy exchange requirements. The administration is asking Americans to believe these statements over their own eyes, their own ears and the cancellation letters Americans are getting in the mail. (Even Politifact has given Jarrett’s tweet a “False” rating.)

This level of dishonesty is almost unheard of at such a high level, even in a city such as Washington, D.C., where the truth is stretched and twisted on a regular basis. Democrats lied about the effects Obamacare would have on the nation’s health industry, and now Americans are paying the price.
