After getting caught cheating on his taxes, Rep. Rangel struggling to get voter donations

Rep. Charlie Rangel’s, D-N.Y, re-election campaign faces severe financial shortages.

Rangell has represented his Harlem district since 1971.

He has struggled heavily to raise campaign donations over the past few months, likely due in part to his recent censure by the House of Representatives for several ethics violations.

These included a failure to pay taxes and improperly soliciting campaign donations.

Rangel reportedly failed to declare several hundred thousand dollars in personal resources on his financial disclosure.

Congressional Democrats have been forced to open their own wallets to help fund Rangel’s campaign, with one Democrat admitting that Rangel has made personal pleas to certain members for campaign money.

Some of the Congressional Democrats that have given Rangel donations include Reps. Steny Hoyer, D-Md, Peter Welch, D-Vt., and Charlie Gonzalez, D-Texas. Rangel has reportedly received thousands of dollars in donations from these three fellow members of Congress.
