It’s social suicide to openly dislike Beyonce, but what if talking bad about Queen Bey was actually signing your death warrant?
This weekend Saturday Night Live aired a trailer for the fake movie The Beygency, a film about the black-ops agency that finds and takes down anyone who turns against the nation by dishonoring its queen. First commandment: “Thou shalt not speak one word against the Queen.”
“A man who said the unsayable, and the agency tasked with bringing him down,” says the narrator.
The skit starts in a living room, where friends gather to drink wine and conversation turns to how perfect Queen Bey is. The music is happy and everyone is smiling until one man, played by SNL host Andrew Garfield, dares to utter that he’s not really a fan of the song ‘Drunk in Love.’
His wife tries to save him by getting him to retract his statement before it’s too late, but she’s not fast enough. Garfield’s character must run for his life from … the Beygency. He gets help along the way from some anti-Beyoncé allies — including 24 actor Kiefer Sutherland, who has a tattoo reading “Rihanna #1” on his chest.
The spoof is spot-on in its portrayal of an action thriller in the vein of The Adjustment Bureau, mixed with pop culture references. And viewers are left to guess — will Garfield’s character make it out alive?
