Happy Birthday, Mr. President!
Well, not quite like that.
Tuesday marks President Obama’s 54th birthday. When you’re the leader of the free world and can do basically whatever you want for your special day, how do you top each year?
We decided to take a look back on the president’s birthdays while in office and the scandals that rocked each year and threatened to ruin his parties –not to mention delay his tee times!
2009 – Happy 48th!
President Obama surprised White House journalist Helen Thomas, who shared the same birthday as the President, with cupcakes in the briefing room. All together now – “Awwwwwww”
Meanwhile that year…
Still in the first year of his presidency, the Birther Movement was in full swing, claiming in the same month as the freshman president’s birthday that they had found his Kenyan birth certificate. Talk about party poopers!
2010 – Happy 49th!
For his second birthday in office, the President made an executive decision to celebrate his day sans family and opted for a guys weekend in Chicago… plus Oprah.
Meanwhile that year…
The Democratic Party, including his own wife, Michelle, used Obama’s 49th birthday as a fundraising opportunity – sending a “birthday card” via e-mail that when prompted to “sign,” led to a donation page for the party. Michelle missed his b-day for a Spanish vacation and also used it to make a buck for the upcoming midterm elections in 2010. This was also the year of that whole Obamacare thing…ugh.
2011 – The big 5-0!
For his 50th, Obama brought the family back — no solo party this year — and celebrated with a barbecue at the White House followed by a star-studded party in the East Room that included Jay Z, Tom Hanks, Chris Rock, and party animal Hillary Clinton. The after-party included dancing, lots of dancing.
Meanwhile that year…
The Solyndra scandal. Obama said he was “going green,” gave millions in government loans to Solyndra, a solar panel company, that immediately went bankrupt, costing Americans their jobs, adding to the national debt, and making Obama look not so great.
2012 – Happy 51st!
The Commander in Chief rang in his 51st as the Commander of the Links, golfing before heading to Camp David.
Meanwhile that year…
Republicans couldn’t let the President’s birthday go unnoticed, teasing him with a cake that said “You didn’t bake this,” alluding to his awful comments earlier that year on small businesses. The president told them, “You didn’t build that.”
2013 – Happy 52nd!
A pretty mellow birthday by all public accounts. Obama turned 52 with a game of cards. Just kidding! He celebrated it like he does every day, with some rounds of golf and quiet time at Camp David.

The first birthday of his second term, many wondered, “What will Obama do with his second term?”
2014 – Happy 53rd!
A mellow birthday with golf, some Camp David R&R, and attending the first ever African leaders summit in D.C. Seriously, Mr. President, are you getting old or is the budget just too thin for the raging parties anymore?
Meanwhile that year…
His very-personal birthday e-card was signed by only a few hundred thousand and the Republicans sent him a copy of the Constitution as a reminder. Happy … Birthday?
2015 – HAPPY 54TH BIRTHDAY, PRESIDENT OBAMA!
What’s an Obama birthday without the golf clubs? The President took some buddies to Andrews Air Force Base for a golf outing this past weekend, had “bro time” with the same friends at Camp David, and returned to Washington, D.C. on Sunday. A pretty laid back birthday for the 54-year-old.
So Happy Birthday Mr. President… as of this occassion, he has have golfed 219 days and overseen a national debt of $18, 158, 880, 249, 443.98 (as of his birthday morning).
