Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) unloaded on President Barack Obama during his visit to South Carolina on Saturday.
Rubio charged that Obama’s policies have failed across the board and suggested that the Republican Party would offer a better alternative come this fall.
Noticeably absent was mention mention of presumptive presidential nominee Mitt Romney, according to ABC News.
Among some of the highlights, Rubio noted although the president’s ideas might have looked good in the classroom, they have undoubtedly failed when translated to real-world policy. He went so far as to say the president is the most divisive personality in American politics.
“The man who today occupies the White House and is running for president is a very different person [than four years ago],” Rubio said. “We have not seen such a divisive figure in modern American history as we have over the last three and a half years.”
Rubio discussed how the American dream can be achieved in just a generation, using his own life as an example. Rubio compared his immigrant father’s blue-collar, working class past with his own high-profile job in the U.S. Senate.
Both of Rubio’s parents emigrated to the United States from Cuba.
“How come he [Rubio’s father] stood behind the bar and tonight I stand behind podium? Why am I here with you today? There are a lot of reasons. Because they worked hard and they sacrificed. Because they encouraged us to dream. Because I worked hard myself. Because God blessed us.”
