Chris Norton injured his C3-C4 vertebrae in 2010 playing football as a college freshman at Luther College.
He was paralyzed from the neck down after the injury and doctors told him that that he had only a 3 percent chance of ever moving his limbs again, according to the SCI CAN Foundation.
This past weekend, after years of intensive therapy, he overcame tremendous odds and walked to receive his college diploma.
His girlfriend, Emily Summers, aided Norton across the stage as he received his degree in business management, KCCI-TV reported.
Norton hit another big milestone later in the weekend when he proposed to Summers. She said, “Yes.”
