Cosmetology student fined for giving free haircuts to homeless people

Government regulation and licensing cost businesses thousands of dollars every year. It could even land someone under investigation for providing charity.

Juan Carlos Montesdeoca is a cosmetology student in Tucson, Arizona and offered dozens of free haircuts to homeless people in Santa Rita Park over the past few months. His altruism has landed him in under investigation by the Arizona State Board of Cosmetology for giving his services away without a license, as reported by Tucson News Now.

“A person shall not perform or attempt to perform cosmetology without a license or practice in any place other than in a licensed salon,” read the investigation letter sent to Montesdeoca.

Red Alert Politics contacted Montesdeoca who said he was “devastated” by the letter he received from the state, and all he was doing was trying to help the homeless.

“I thought it was legal to love people, but, apparently, I need a license to do anything to help the homeless,” he continued. “I tried giving out food to the homeless. We got shut down… I think (the state) should allow us to give free haircuts to the help the homeless.”

Big government, hurting the people they claim to be helping.

UPDATE:

Montesdeoca created a GoFundMe to help pay for his licensing.
