During Saturday Night Live‘s Weekend Update last week, cast member Michael Che went after Ben Carson by questioning his medical degree. This week he had another equally classy joke.
Che was discussing how Carson is catching up to front-runner Donald Trump for the nomination. In a flippant tone he mentioned that “voters like Carson because of his inspiring story and gentle way of speaking.”
He then had an epiphany when he suggested “oh, I get it! They think he’s Radio! That’s why they like him!”
Radio was a 2003 movie staring Cuba Gooding, Jr., who played a soft-spoken mentally challenged man who becomes a student and takes an interest in football at the local high school.
The connotation of the joke speaks for itself.
