Clinton tells young Democrats: ‘Bernie and I had the same ideas’

Hillary Clinton joined a group of digital content creators and YouTube personalities in Hollywood on Tuesday in an attempt to reach out to these young voters and their combined 100s of millions of followers.

She was quick to praise her opponent Bernie Sanders for energizing the youth in the Democratic Party. She said Sanders ran a “terrific campaign,” and said his passion and energy were good for the Democratic Party.

“I think its been great to bring so many young people into the political system,” she said. “I’m excited to have the Democratic Party unified.”

She also admitted that she had learned several lessons from Sanders’ campaign, in particular, his messages about “free college” and income inequality.

“Bernie and I had a lot of the same ideas and the same way of getting to goals — but then we had different approaches, so we had some good debates about what was the best way to do it,” Clinton said. “That’s what I think an election should be about.”

She specified that the cost of college should be reduced (not free).

“If we can get the cost down and we can manage to send as many young people to college without having to go into debt, then, as I try to clean up the whole debt mess, we won’t be putting more people into debt,” Clinton said. “That is how I want to take the real advocacy that Bernie and his supporters brought around the issue of college, and put it into a specific set of objectives that I’m going to advocate for during this campaign.”

Earlier that same day, Clinton also announced her plan to defer student loans for young entrepreneurs for up to three years while they are starting their businesses.
