NRA releases ad criticizing Obama on night before WH gun control announcement

Less than 24 hours before President Obama was slated to make his gun legislation announcement, the National Rifle Association released an ad criticizing the POTUS for his hypocritical stance on guns.

The ad was launched by NRA Stand and Fight, a branch of the NRA, on Tuesday night. It hits the President for being “skeptical about putting armed security in our schools” while the First Daughters have armed protection — U.S. Secret Service — at their schools. It also criticizes him for his belief that the wealthy should pay their fair of taxes, while refusing to allow “a fair share of security.”

While only mentioning Obama by name, the video features images of “Meet the Press” host David Gregory, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Vice President Joe Biden.

Since Sandy Hook, while pressure for increased gun control has made gun owners nervous, the NRA has seen rapid membership growth, first announcing 100,000 new members and then upping that to 250,000 in the month following the shooting.

But after some PR blemishes — namely Wayne LaPierre’s disastrous press conference and the “too soon” release of a target practice game app — this video is a step in the right direction for the NRA and accurately pinpoints the President’s hypocrisy.

President Obama is expected to introduce proposals to heighten gun control during a Wednesday morning press conference.
