Mediaite: Alec Baldwin to host MSNBC show

The website Mediate is reporting that “30 Rock” star Alec Baldwin has signed on to host a Friday night show on MSNBC. The untitled program would air at 10 p.m., replacing an episode of MSNBC’s prison show “Lockup,” and feature Baldwin’s liberal politics.

Baldwin has long been associated with the peacock network thanks to “30 Rock” and hosting gigs on “Saturday Night Live.” That being said, in recent months he’s also ragged on the news media, including mainstream outlets like CNN, for coverage of his various Twitter outbursts.

In an official capacity, MSNBC would not respond to Mediate’s report. “We’re fans of Alec but we’ve got nothing to say regarding this unconfirmed report,” an MSNBC source told the website.

If the actor does indeed get a show, he will be the second MSNBC host that comes from a more Hollywood background. Before his “Last Word” hosting gig, Lawrence O’Donnell was a writer on the “West Wing” and played the family attorney on HBO’s “Big Love.”
