President Obama is facing more bad approval ratings, but this time they are coming from states that used to be his biggest fans.
Just 39 percent of registered voters in New York responded to a new Marist College poll that they believed Obama was doing an “excellent” or “good” job. This is the lowest level ever for Obama in liberal New York.

It has dropped 6 points from July, when 45 percent said they approved of his job performance. A majority 61 percent of survey respondents said he was doing a “fair” or “poor” job as president.
Obama’s New York approval rating is actually lower than his national rating. A Gallup poll taken late last month showed 42 percent approval for the president and 51 percent disapproval.
This could really harm his future rankings. His loyal Democratic base in states like New York and California has kept him in the low 40s until this point, but the tide could be shifting.
Even California, one of Obama’s favorite fundraising locales, is showing a dip in support for the president.
Only 45 percent of California voters said they approve of the way the president is handling his job — down 5 percentage points from June, according to a new Field Poll. Nearly the same amount, 43 percent, said they disapprove of the president’s job performance.
