Jon Stewart attacks the NRA over ivory bans

Jon Stewart used Obama’s climate change deal with China as a launching pad for attacking the NRA Wednesday night.

Stewart spent a few seconds praising the deal to reduce emissions, but then quickly pivoted to highlighting China’s illegal ivory trade.

From there, he brought up a proposal to restrict ivory sales in the United States.

“What kind of a–hole would be opposed to it?” Stewart said.

He then played a clip from NRA News criticizing the proposal for making ivory owners, particularly gun owners whose firearms are crafted with ivory, “criminals.”

“Oh NRA, is there anything you won’t try to kill that keeps other things from being killed?” said Stewart.

The NRA has called the desire to restrict illegal trade that harms an endangered species “laudable” but is concerned that the proposal would unintentionally criminalize the ownership of antique guns unless the owners could somehow effectively prove their ivory was over 100 years old.
