A new poll following the rise of Pokémon Go found that more millennials recognize Pikachu than Vice President Joe Biden — and it isn’t even close.
The poll, conducted by Vox and Morning Consult, found that 98 percent of millennials recognized Pikachu, but only 61 percent of millennials recognized Joe Biden.
Biden was often mistaken by millennials for other politicians. When shown a picture of Biden, 6 percent of millennials mistook him for House Speaker Paul Ryan, 3 percent thought he was Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and 1 percent of millennials mistook Biden for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
Pikachu, having been around for two decades, was far more recognizable to millennials. Of the 2 percent of millennials who couldn’t identify Pikachu, 1 percent mistook him for Charmander, another Pokémon, and the other 1 percent just didn’t know.
In addition to 98 percent of millennials being able to recognize Pikachu, 96 percent of all millennials have heard of Pokémon Go in some capacity, far higher than the amount of millennials who were able to recognize Biden.
It’s concerning to know that only 61 percent of millennials recognize the second-most powerful person in America, but almost every millennial surveyed knows who Pikachu is.
