Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) addressed the Christians United for Israel (CUFI) Washington, D.C. Summit Tuesday night, bashing President Barack Obama for allowing Iran to continue to pursue their nuclear program and scolding him for his weak support of Israel.
Bachmann said that the president has been weak on his strategy of sanctions and containment of Iran, and said the U.S. needs to do more to prevent not only Iran, but terrorists in general from obtaining nuclear weapons.
“There is a radical wing of Islam that is dedicated to the destruction of Israel and the United States,” said Bachmann.
She said the White House’s toothless sanctions are not having an impact on Iran, and Iran has not changed their course from obtaining a nuclear weapon. So far President Obama has done nothing but warn Iran to stop their nuclear program for three years.
“Pigs will fly before Iran seeks peaceful use of nuclear power,” said Bachmann.
Bachmann said that despite who is in office, Democrats and Republicans since President Harry Truman have always stood firm on the U.S.-Israeli relationship… until the current administration. President Truman pledged support for Israel 11 minutes after the current nation was conceived in 1948.
“This is the first administration where our support for Israel is even in question.”
Bachmann thanked supporters, members and students alike for attending the CUFI Summit and being such staunch supporters of Israel, but admitted there is a lot of work to do.
“Israel’s survival has never been in more trouble than it is today.”
CUFI held their annual Summit while the familiar hostilities brewed in the Middle East, such as the recent “Arab Spring” and takeover of Egyptian Government by the Muslim Brotherhood.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to Israel in her recent Israeli foreign trip, where she met with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
