Marc Cuban has shared his ideas for how to win the presidency, and no candidates have come close to his strategy.
If a candidate wants to succeed, he says, they need to harness the power of social media and have a deeper understanding of how technology will shape the future, according to The Federalist.
Cuban revealed his political strategy ideas in a radio interview for WABC’s Rita Cosby Show. He’s skeptical that Donald Trump could get elected, thinks that John Kasich is “the adult in the room,” and worries that campaigns are more cultural events than political.
“The primaries and in particular the debates have become almost like a big social event in some respects, more than a political event. And when you have that, it just distracts from what everybody’s trying to accomplish,” Cuban said.
That can build attention, and audiences, but it can reduce serious, deep political discussions into sound bites and entertainment fodder. The candidates aren’t challenged on issues like economics, which Cuban expects to be important.
“I think the economy’s gonna become a bigger, and bigger issue,” he said. “If you just look at what’s happening in the stock market, I think, there’s so much uncertainty with the economy, there’s so much uncertainty with markets, there’s so much uncertainty with international finance, that people could start feeling the effects personally and that could change what they’re focused on.”
Technology will build in importance to national security as well.
“In this day and age, I think wars are going to be fought, more by bytes, and more by cyber terrorism, than they are going to be fought by bombs and bullets, and if you don’t understand that, it’s going to be very difficult as commander-in-chief,” Cuban said.
On economics and technological literature, the candidates have a long way to go. Nor is Cuban happy with all the candidates. He’s glad to see the field winnowing, but dismissed Ted Cruz as “Joe McCarthy reincarnate” and questions Bernie Sanders’s campaign platform. “I just don’t see how any of his platforms are going to work,” he said.
This isn’t the first time that Cuban has shared his thoughts on the 2016 election. On his blog, he noted that “there has not been a single instance of leadership from any of the candidates.”
“There are new ideas in this world that matter. It would be nice to get one from a presidential candidate,” Cuban wrote.
As the election continues, new ideas might emerge, but for now, voters are stuck in a campaign blitz as neither party has a clear idea of who will be their candidate.
