What does President Obama have to show for the first 100 days of his second term? Nothing.
During his special press conference on Tuesday, the President was asked about his failure to accomplish anything so far during his second term.
“Do you still have the juice to get the rest of your agenda through this Congress?” ABC News Chief White House Correspondent Jonathan Karl asked the President after outlining his failures thus far.
“If you put it that way, Jonathan, maybe I should just pack up and go home,” Obama jested. “Golly.”
While the POTUS was making a joke at his own expense, Karl had a point.
As the reporter pointed out, President Obama’s push for gun control legislation fell flat, even in the Democrat-controlled Senate. The President was also not successful in his attempts to roll back the sequestration — or, failing that, to make it hurt as much as possible. And after the Federal Aviation Administration flexibility legislation passed Congress in lightning speed, the President decided he wanted to sign the bill — a bill he threatened to veto back in February. At least he knows when to fix his mistakes.
And as the release of a new Quinnipiac University poll shows, a majority of Americans disapprove of Obama’s handling of the economy (53 to 41 percent), gun policy (52 to 41 percent) and immigration (50 to 40 percent) — all big things the President has pushed during these 100 days.
Congratulations on a job well done, President Obama. Keep up the good work.
