Obama: Getting coverage under Obamacare is “just part of growing up”

For young Americans, signing up for health coverage under the Affordable Care Act is “just part of growing up,” according to President Barack Obama.

Before the broadcast of the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday night, the President sat down with TNT Sports studio analyst Charles Barkley for an exclusive interview. The former NBA player asked POTUS about his signature healthcare law and what he thinks of the term ‘Obamacare.’

“I like it, I don’t mind,” he said, before taking a shot at those who oppose the law. “And I tell you, five years from now when everybody’s saying, ‘Man, I’m sure glad we got healthcare,’ there are gonna be a whole bunch of people who don’t call it Obamacare anymore because they don’t want me to get the credit.”

The President added that young people in particular don’t realize how important it is to have healthcare. He said that young, healthy Americans will have “fairly cheap” premiums, again asserting that the cost will be lower than their cell phone or cable bill.

“It’s just part of growing up — is making sure you’re taking care of your body, taking care of your health,” Obama said of getting covered.

The two men also talked a little basketball, of course. Barkley inquired about how often the President gets to hit the court. Obama replied that he plays less frequently, only about once a month, simply because he’s getting older and also because he doesn’t want an injury to keep him from his presidential duties.

“You gotta start thinking about elbows and — you break your nose right before a State of the Union address,” Obama joked.
