What’s the best way to remember the 1941 Pearl Harbor attack? One Chicago area bar suggested drinking “bombs and kamikazes” — and is now apologizing for the tasteless marketing.
Murphy’s Bleachers, located in Wrigleyville near the Cubs’ ballpark, put up a sign making light of Saturday’s anniversary by creating puns off of the names of drinks.
“Remember Pearl Harbor with bombs & kamikazes,” the sign read, according to the Chicago Tribune.
The owner of the establishment, Beth Murphy, ordered the sign be removed once she became aware of the outrage on Twitter.
“Remember Pearl Harbor with Kamikazes & Bombs” promo at @murphysbleacher 12/7/13 might be the worst signage idea since … maybe ever.

@murphysbleacher If I followed you, I’d have unfollowed today based on your “bombs/kamikaze” special to commemorate Pearl Harbor #ClassyNOT

@murphysbleacher is an ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. Sign up for Bombs & Kamikazis to “Remember Pearl Harbor Day” #Boycott #tcot pic.twitter.com/RXKY7dWYjz

Murphy apologized and told the paper she was personally “devastated” by the sign.
“Some guys thought it would be clever,” Murphy told the Tribune. “Obviously we are ashamed. I’m so upset.”
The employee responsible will be disciplined — and that could mean firing, Murphy said. The bar has since apologized on its Facebook and Twitter.
We couldn’t be more embarrassed and ashamed by the actions of our staff this morning. The sign has been removed… http://t.co/RkThBDpq0r
