Seattle man sets his home ablaze trying to kill a spider

The simple stomping method or a cup and a piece of paper would probably have worked just as well. Instead, a Seattle man tried killing a spider in his laundry room Tuesday by using a lighter and spray paint.

Unfortunately, the spider wasn’t the only victim of this homemade blowtorch. He also set his house on fire.

The man left his house Tuesday evening as the fire spread out of his control, calling 911. Fire fighters extinguished the flames, but not before there was excessive damage to the house. Fire officials estimate $40,000 worth of damage to the house, and $20,000 to the contents inside.

“There are safer, more effective ways to kill a spider than using fire,” Kyle Moore of the fire squad told local news station KOMO. “Fire is not the method to use to kill a spider.”

The man, who lives in the house with another woman, rents the property. It is unknown if the actual owners know of the fire yet.

That should make for an awkward conversation.
