NAACP President Benjamin Jealous ventured into the absurd Monday, comparing Voter ID laws with Jim Crow laws and his organization’s fight against them with the “Selma and Montgomery times” of the Civil Rights Movement.
I’m sure Jealous invoked this resemblance to create an emotional response to a monumental time in history.
But the accusations of racism reached a higher level of absurdity when embattled Attorney General Eric Holder addressed the NAACP, comparing Voter ID laws with “poll taxes.”
“Many of those without IDs would have to travel great distances to get them, and some would struggle to pay for the documents they might need to obtain them. We call those poll taxes,” Holder said.
Yet ironically, a photo ID was required to attend Holder’s speech. The hypocritical stance of the Left is amusing and yet sad because it shows how much the Left is losing touch with reality.
This rhetoric is foolish and divisive.
The Left claims it is acting in defense of minorities, but in reality it is saying minorities lack the intelligence to purchase a photo ID.
It is a direct punch in the gut to imply that minorities are incapable of completing a small task like purchasing an ID.
IDs are needed to do just about anything these days, and it does not take a stellar level of intelligence to know that IDs are easily accessible.
It is time to rebuke and admonish the racial oratory that compels people to think that Voter ID laws are part of a race-driven agenda.
What Jealous neglected to inform the oldest civil rights organization is that Voter ID laws prohibit voter fraud.
These laws are certainly not meant to suppress minorities – or any ethnic group – from voting.
I am convinced that many who labored in the Civil Rights Movement would be highly insulted to see their efforts undermined by such a partisanship.
Voter ID laws are not designed to benefit Republicans or Democrats, but the American people as a whole. They transcend political ideology and serve to guarantee a fair election process.
The far Left is willing to see elections tainted by the potential for fraud and abuse rather than implement a safe and secure photo ID system.
They need to scare people using racial bigotry is because they fear that minorities and seniors will turn a deaf ear to liberal policies and lose influence.
The Left desires to see fear and anxiety put forth as an issue in order to keep minorities enslaved and entangled within their electoral premise.
The NAACP, Attorney General Eric Holder and any other organization or individual that stands against Voter ID laws are simply encouraging fraud and corruption and making a mockery of our election process.
It’s not complicated or perplexing. You either are an ambassador for fairness and justice for voting or you tolerate corruption for the sake of political power.
