For Florida high school student Malik Whiter, taking a selfie while his pregnant teacher experienced labor pains behind him was all about doing a good deed for a “great teacher” and capturing a lifelong memory — one that has now spread like wild fire across the Internet.
Whiter, a junior at Coral Springs High School, decided to pose for the picture at the same time his teacher, Susana Halleck, was experiencing contractions. The student snapped the photo and posted it to his Twitter, where it got more than 23,000 retweets and almost as many favorites.
“Selfie with my teacher while she having contractions,” Whiter wrote Tuesday.
The photo features the high school junior with a wide grin, donning a green and yellow beanie and shades. And behind him, Halleck sits with her hand over her head, cell phone to her ear.
According to Gawker, the teacher was on the phone with her mother assuring her she would be just fine.
Whiter told Miami’s WPLG he just wanted to capture “the memorable moment” for both himself and Halleck, who is a “great teacher.”
And, according to Whiter’s Twitter, he received a B in the class. The now-famous educator even liked the photo.
Halleck isn’t due until Dec. 15, The Miami NewTimes reported. And though she did go to hospital, Halleck didn’t deliver and was back teaching the very next day.
