[WATCH] ‘Girl In A Country Song’ music video protests the popularity of ‘bro-country’

If you’re tired of country songs about girls in the back of trucks in cut-off jeans and bikini tops, you’re not alone.

Newcomers to the country music scene, Maddie & Tae, released their video for “Girl In A Country Song” on Thursday. The video flips the roles of women in country songs and videos and turns them onto men.

Three men in short-shorts, crop-tops, and cowboy boots walk down dirt roads, wash cars, and seductively eat strawberries while Maddie & Tae sing about the portrayal of women in country music.

“We used to get a little respect

Now we’re lucky if we even get

To climb up in your truck,

Keep our mouths shut and ride along

Down some dirt road we don’t even wanna be on

And be the girl in a country song”

And with that, the rise against “bro-country” has officially gone mainstream.
