[WATCH] 7 clips of Ghostbusters star Harold Ramis’ best work

Chances are twenty- and early-thirtysomethings know comedy master Harold Ramis best from the “Ghostbusters” films. For one, his role of Dr. Egon Spengler was one of the two major acting jobs he had during his brilliant career, the other coming as Bill Murray’s troublemaking counterpart in “Stripes.” And “Ghostbusters” left a large footprint beyond its 1984 debut: It spawned a seven-season cartoon series and a big-screen sequel, and your author and his best friend strapped on a couple of proton packs for an early 90s Halloween not too long ago.

Ramis, who passed away Monday at age 69, was at least as much of a legend for what he did off of the camera or behind it, however. Here are some movie clips from films that he wrote or directed — it’s impressive how many of them are classics.

“Animal House” (Ramis co-wrote)

“Caddyshack” (co-wrote)

“Stripes” (co-wrote and -starred)

“National Lampoon’s Vacation” (directed)

“Ghostbusters” (co-wrote and -starred)

“Ghostbusters II” (co-wrote and -starred)

“Groundhog Day” (co-wrote and directed)
