Likely Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush made a bold and controversial statement on the Iraq invasion that was released to the public Sunday.
“I would have [authorized the invasion], and so would have Hillary Clinton, just to remind everyone,” Bush told Fox News host Megyn Kelly in an interview that will air Monday night on The Kelly File. “And so would almost everybody that was confronted with the intelligence they got.”
Kelly asked if he thought it was a mistake.
Bush said the only mistakes were the “faulty” intelligence ahead of time and not ensuring national security for the Iraqis, something he and his brother, former President George W. Bush, agree on.
“In retrospect the intelligence that everybody saw, that the world saw, not just the United States, was faulty. Once we invaded and took out Saddam Hussein, we didn’t focus on security first,” he said.
“By the way, guess who thinks those mistakes took place as well? George W. Bush. Yes, I mean, so just for the news flash to the world, if they’re trying to find places where there’s big spaces between me and my brother, this might not be one of those,” Bush continued.
