The terrorists have won. But one Texas movie theater is still standing up for freedom.
Sony canceled the Christmas Day release of James Franco and Seth Rogen’s “The Interview” Wednesday, bowing down to pressure from likely North Korean hackers who threatened violence at screenings of the film. In place of “The Interview, ” Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas, Texas will offer a free screening of “Team America: World Police,” which features the death of Kim Jong Il, the father of current North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.
“We’re just trying to make the best of an unfortunate situation,” James Wallace, creative manager and programmer at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s Dallas/Fort Worth location, told The Hollywood Reporter.
The theater will also hand our American flags and other patriotic items, according to Wallace.
“Team America,” co-written by South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, envisioned Kim Jong-un’s father as a psychopathic marionette puppet bent on world domination before eventually being taken out. The posters promoting the movie back in 2004 read, “Putting the ‘F’ Back in Freedom.”
“THAT is how true American heroes will be celebrating this year, but if you want to let the terrorists win…well, that’s your prerogative,” the theater said in a note on its website.
The free screening will be held Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. at the Alamo Drafthouse movie theater in Dallas, Texas. No other Alamo Drafthouses have announced similar plans at this time.
If you’re not in Dallas, you’ll just have to fight the terrorists by singing along to “Ronery” on Youtube.
