A senior Democratic strategist is all but panicking that President Obama’s weak message on the economy is not swaying independent voters toward his re-election campaign.
New polling data reports that 38 percent of independent voters approve of President’s economic policies, while 54 percent of independent voters hold unfavorable views of Obama’s plan for the economy.
Democratic political consultant James Carville voiced his concerns on Good Morning America this morning about the tendency of the Obama campaign to over-emphasize “the progress that is being made.”
Carville warned that such a statement might not sit well with voters, saying that they will likely “take that as a signal that they [Obama campaign] think that things are fine.”
The former Clinton adviser also lamented the fact that Obama has failed to acknowledge how badly millions of Americans have been affected by the economic recession that began in 2007.
Carville also highlighted the deterioration of the middle class, and how many voters question whether or not President Obama has a plan to address this serious issue.
This worry comes just days after President Obama came under fire for saying that “the private sector is doing fine,” indicating the extent to which he is disconnected from issues facing the American people.
Responding to the president’s comments, Mitt Romney criticized Obama’s ineptness, saying “He’s had a number of very revealing comments that show just how far out of touch he is with what’s happening in the country.”
Gov. Romney also criticized the President for focusing on fundraising, instead of going out and talking to the American people about issues facing the economy.
Tomorrow, President Obama will attend a lavish fundraiser at the Manhattan home of Hollywood actress Sarah Jessica Parker. The attendance fee? A mere $80,000 per head.
