During his address to conservatives at the annual Faith and Freedom Coalition, former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum reaffirmed his support for Mitt Romney as the GOP nominee.
Santorum expressed confidence in Mitt Romney’s social conservatism, saying, “I have no doubt that he (Mitt Romney) understands the centrality of family.”
The former Pennsylvania Senator has a consistent record as a social conservative and repeatedly expressed concerns about Mitt Romney changing his positions on controversial social issues during the Republican primaries.
Santorum encouraged those in attendance to stand firm as social conservatives, warning that America cannot have limited government, “with the family continuing to disintegrate.”
Just before Santorum’s speech, Mitt Romney also addressed the conference via video feed from a campaign bus tour, and reaffirmed his pledge to stand firm as a social conservative.
The former Massachusetts governor spoke about the importance of preserving traditional values, noting that families are, “an important source of strength for the nation.”
Santorum appeared to be very pleased with the Mitt Romney’s remarks to the audience, saying that, “he (Romney) hit the points,” and was “right on,” in his message of social conservatism.
